A Chance to Volunteer 8 - Sept  - 2014

Dear Transition Year Student

Castlebar Special Olympics Table Tennis is a mixed  Club of about 20 members which meet weekly in St Marys Hall GMIT Castlebar. The Club sessions are held on Thursday nights from 7.45pm to 9.15pm  approximately and run from Mid September to End of April 2015.

In order to make the sessions interesting and enjoyable for the participants we are seeking 2/3 volunteers from St Geralds College Transition Year students.

The volunteers should have  an interest in helping young adults with an intellectual disability to develop their full potential. Being able to play table tennis would be an advantage but not a necessity, while  a lively outgoing personality is always a plus

Typically and  over time the volunteers would assist/undertake all the tasks associated with  a table tennis training session.

These would include ; Setup and take down of tables and equipment ;  Taking warm up and cool down sessions ; Carrying out skills training and coaching with beginners; Coaching one to one games with improvers ; Setup of table tennis  robots, and other training aids and assist with their use.

Its a nice environment and they  will be introduced to all the tasks over a few weeks. Please inform Mr Kelleher if interested.

Thanking you
